SKILLS PROGRAMMES

AN EIGHT-WEEK BRIDGING

Currently, there are no NQF (National Qualification Framework) Level 1, 2 or 3 qualifications and in many cases, potential learners do not have the entry requirements for Level 4. Safe and Sound offers an eight-week bridging programme which includes two or three mornings (each week) spent at local best practice sites to observe the implementation of the theory they are learning. This is one of the keys to the success of those enrolled.

ENTREPRENEUR PROGRAMME FOR GRADE ‘R’ - ECD

South Africa has the highest unemployment rate in the world for people between the ages of 15 to 24. Given the above evidence, Safe and Sound delivers an entrepreneurial intervention at Early Childhood Development centres to lay the foundations of entrepreneurial thinking and principles, with the ultimate goal of cultivation of life-long learners and young adults with the options of creating their own employment opportunities. Children are naturally curious and the key characteristics and skills that the entrepreneurial programme enhances/develops are self-esteem, independence, problem solving skills, decision-making, team work, persistence and creativity. IMPORTANTLY, THIS PROGRAMME EMPHASIZES LITERACY BUT ALSO THE EVERYDAY LITERACY OF BUSINESS OPERATIONS – READING, LISTENING, SPEAKING, PHONICS, WRITING, THINKING AND REASONING. Programme activities are designed to lay the foundation of and develop the entrepreneurial characteristics and skills - science experiments; opportunities to investigate, plan, make and evaluate creative items, data recording and analysis opportunities.

As a member of the NTATAISE NETWORK, we deliver the following network programme's:

BREAKING THE CYCLE OF GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE : AN EARLY CHILDHOOD INTERVENTION

The purpose of this training is to build the capacity of organisational staff, trainers, practitioners and parents to address effective ways to combat and prevent gender-based violence (GBV) within the context of early childhood development (ECD).

ECD PRACTITIONER QUALITY REFLECTION TOOL

Using BRIDGE developed material

• Safe and Sound mediates the ECD PRACTITIONER QUALITY REFLECTION TOOL which is “not a checklist. It is a set of questions for practitioners to ask themselves, to reflect on, and to answer honestly, for themselves. This is to help them identify their own good practice and to find areas that they need more support with.” (extracted from the BRIDGE Mediator Guide).

Safe and Sound is a non-profit training organization in the Early Childhood Development sector, committed to play-based, age-appropriate, holistic education programmes.
